A few things have me really really upset in the last few days so I'm going to rant. The first one is a young man who one month ago was arrested for carrying a loaded hand gun and resisting arrest, was released on bail. He then went on to shoot and kill a used car salesman who he mistakenly believed was responsible for his car being reposessed.
The second is our city Councillors voting themselves a 12+ percent salary increase apparently without most of them knowing what they were voting for. These are the people who earn over $85,000 per year, plus expenses and various other perks to the tune of over $130,000 who cant keep our streets clean and without potholes, who skimp on salting roads causing more accidents and dont offer constructive advice when asked on issues of crime other than, lets give them a few more hugs and look for "root causes". God I hate that phrase. If poverty and single parenthood were an excuse for gangsterism, well then I guess I should have raised one. Instead I raised a law abiding young man who would never have considered a life of crime an is a productive member of our society.
The upcoming elections are my last rant. Why is everyone so afraid of Steven Harper? Is it because he is a Christian? Why is it when P. Martin throws billions in tax cuts at us it's good. When S. Harper talks about tax reductions, it's bad. If he is elected and turns out bad, throw him out. That's democracy, isn't it?
When P. Martin goes to his Doctor in a private clinic, it's okay! When S. Harper speaks about taking his loved one's to a private clinic if no timely public care is available, it's bad. Would any one of us, if we had the money not use it to save our life whether private here or in the U.S. I would.
Jack Layton, who in my opinion has lost the moral authority to criticize the Liberals, says he would never go to a private hospital, no matter what. He of course has some experience with our health care system, in that his wife successfully fought cancer this year and he also had some health issues. But does he seriously believe that he didnt get to the front of the line. Just by virtue of his name and his wife's they are instantly recognizable and would have been given preferential treatment as was Adrienne Clarkson. Anyone who believes otherwise is a fool.
And his worst mistake in my humble opinion was in acclaiming Svend Robinson, who if you dont remember, stole a $50,000 ring and didn't go to jail. Had that been you or me, man we'd have been locked up fast. Faster than the kid with the gun, I think. I'll leave it at that.
